2019 Grow-Out Fish - Moonlight Gouramis
Trichopodus microlepis , also known as the Moonlight Gourami will be our grow-out fish for 2019. It is a labyrinth fish from the family Osphronemidae and the adult can reach a length of 13cm (5.1 in)
The HAS wants to thank ...
Tyler Takehara (One our past HAS President)s of Ty's Tropicals for bringing in the Gouramis.
Also Mahalo to Alan Terakoa for donating the fish bags and rubber bands and Robin Echavaria for providing the oxygen tank.
These fish are silvery colored with a slightly greenish hue similar to the soft glow of moonlight. The moonlight gourami's concavely sloped head distinguishes it from other gourami varieties. The males can be identified by the orange to red coloration of the pelvic fins, as well as the long dorsal fins which ends in a point. In females, the pelvic fins are colorless to yellow, and the dorsal fins are shorter and rounder. During spawning, the male's orange thread-like ventral fins will intensify and become red.
